0. ATV Safety Instruction Class: The course will be held on the Rodeo Grounds at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday only. The course is 4 to 5 hours long. 1. The Grizzly Trail: UTVs OK! Available Wednesday, Thursday & Friday. This trail leaves from the rodeo grounds and travels through old grizzly country to Alpine. This fast-paced, all-day ride is around 105 miles with some rocky, rough terrain and steep hills to climb. (Because of these conditions, this ride is not recommended for sports quads.) You will have to have the endurance of a grizzly bear to make this ride. This ride will feature some of the more spectacular sites on the Outlaw Trail - tall, cool pines and aspen trees along the way. Starting elevation is approximately 7,000 feet and you will climb to elevations over 9,000 feet. Bring your camera for wildlife pictures, a sack lunch, and extra gas. This ride has been rated "Advanced".


2. Rustler's Loop: ATVs only under 53" wide! Available Wednesday, Thursday & Friday. - This ride starts at the rodeo grounds, driving through Eagar to the Saffell Canyon ATV staging area. This all day ride will cover about 50 miles. The trail travels south to Pat Knoll named after Pat Trainor, an old Irishman cattle rustler that was tried over 20 times in Apache County courts and never convicted! This ride will feature several spectacular overviews of the Round Valley and Nutrioso areas for those photographers who desire a great picture. Bring a sack lunch. This ride is rated "Intermediate". Please note: A maximum clearance of 53" is available at certain points on this trail. If you are riding a Polaris Ranger, Yamaha Rhino, or a similar rig, please choose another ride because of the clearance problem.

3. Slaughter's Circle: UTVs OK! Trailered Ride! Available Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. This ride is a scenic, photography ride that will give the rider who loves wildlife and beautiful scenery an opportunity to experience it up-close & personal! This ride requires transporting your ATV to Lightening Ridge staging area, approximately 30 miles from the rodeo grounds. The ride is about 45 miles long and will take you through our beautiful high country where John Wayne had his summer range for his 26-Ranch located in Eagar. An awesome overlook of Blackriver where Ike Clanton is supposedly buried will also be a treat. Some of the route will travel south on the old Apache Railway grade to the PS Ranch now owned by the Arizona Game & Fish. This ride will also include a visit to the PS Lookout Tower to experience some awesome views of the area. Bring a sack lunch. This ride is rated "Beginner to Moderate".

**4. Robber's Roost Trail: UTVs OK! Trailered Ride! Available Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. Many of Butch Cassidy’s "Wild Bunch" were known to come to Apache County after the breakup of the gang. One of these "alleged" retired members (!), Hank Sharp, was noted to have roped a grizzly bear near this trail at Sheep Cinega. This ride will require you to trailer your wheeler about 16 miles to the Green’s Peak Lookout turnoff. From here you will enjoy a leisurely-paced ride approximately 48 miles through beautiful high cinegas formerly used by ranchers for their summer pasture. This will take you to the highest point of the Outlaw Trail, Green’s Peak Lookout, an elevation of 10,134 feet where you will have an awesome overview of the surrounding mountain country. Then visit beautiful Canaro Spring on the last leg of the trip. This trail is rated "Beginner to Moderate". Bring a sack lunch.

5. Lawmen Memorial Ride: ATVs only under 53" wide! Available on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday - This ride is dedicated with appreciation to the lawmen of Arizona that brought peace to this territory. This is a 10-hour, 100 mile ride, designed for the experienced rider who enjoys a little faster pace. The ride leaves from the rodeo grounds, climbs up through the forested mountains, wanders thru valleys and meadows where outlaws & rustlers once ruled, then to beautiful Big Lake for lunch. From there we ride thru John Wayne’s 26-Bar Ranch summer range, then thru more forest as we wind our way back to the rodeo grounds. Learn about the Smith Gang, Arizona Ranger Carlos Tafoya, and of other lawmen that faced the many outlaws in this area and played their part in the territory of Arizona becoming the 48th state. You will ride thru the actual places where outlaws roamed and where some confrontations took place. The ride has some high mountain overlooks, awesome panoramic views, several miles of rough, rocky trail, some hills to climb, some road riding, but mostly trails thru the magnificent forest of pine, spruce, and aspen. Bring a lunch, your camera, and extra gas. Gas and snacks are available at the Big Lake store. This fun ride, rated Advanced, is not recommended for sports-style ATVs due to trail conditions.


**6. Lightening Ridge Run: UTVs OK! Trailered Ride! Available on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. This ride will require transporting your ATV to the Lightening Ridge staging area. This trail will travel south along the old Apache Railway grade to Big Lake then over to the West Fork of Black River and then up the north side of Burro Mountain for a total of about 42 miles. Stop and get a cool drink from the North Spring while you take a break along the trail. This ride is rated "Intermediate" because of steep, rocky parts of the trail. Bring your sack lunch.

7. Apache Railway Holdup: Closed due to construction of Big Lake Road.

8. Ike Clanton Loop: ATVs only under 53" wide! Available Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. Wednesday and Thursday - this ride will be a "Survivor" game! This is a great slow-paced ride for the "Beginner" rider who wants to take a short 19 mile-loop out of Eagar. Great views will be seen from the Milligan Valley Mesa overlooking the Round Valley area. The Milligan Mesa loop overlooks lower Nutrioso where Ike Clanton (of the OK Corral Gunfight fame) had his home. Bring some cold drinks and snacks and you can be back in Round Valley for lunch. Please note: A maximum clearance of 53" is available at certain points on this trail. If you are riding a Polaris Ranger, Yamaha Rhino, or a similar rig, please choose another ride because of the clearance problem.

9. Clanton Clan Rendezvous: ATVs only under 53" wide! Available Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. This is a 67-mile ride that will leave from the rodeo grounds going up Picnic Hill down through Sipe Wildlife Area to the cool pines and aspen trees surrounding Pat Knoll. Ride by the old Clanton homestead where the Clanton family rendezvoused after their many runs into southern Arizona. Also, view portions of the Coronado Trail, a popular highway trip in Arizona. This ride also will take you through the OD Ridge area which always promises some of the best wildlife viewing on the Outlaw Trail. Bring your lunch. This ride is rated as "Intermediate".This ride is brought to you by Apache County.


10. Wildlife Viewing At Its Best: UTVs OK!Available Wednesday, Thursday & Friday. 14 mile ride. The White Mountains of Arizona is well known for its Rocky Mountain trophy elk herd. Sipe’s Wildlife Area was created by the Arizona Game & Fish to allow visitors access to these incredible animals. This ride will leave from the rodeo grounds at 3:30 pm to enable participants to be at Sipe’s by 4:30 pm. Bruce Sitko with the Game & Fish will be your guide and give a short presentation and then hike with you a short ways (1/2 mile) to the wildlife viewing area. This is a prime time to view the bull elk at the start of his mating season or "rut". Hearing a bull elk bugle is a thrill of a lifetime! Bring your binoculars, camera, flashlight, and make sure you have headlights on your ATV because you will be traveling back to the rodeo grounds in the dark.

11. Sipe Wildlife Area Tours: UTVs OK! Available Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. This ride starts at the rodeo grounds and travels up Picnic Hill and over to the Sipe Wildlife Area - about 18 miles roundtrip. You will be given a guided tour of this beautiful wildlife refuge by Arizona Game & Fish employee, Bruce Sitko. You will be back in time for lunch. Rated for "Beginners".

**12. Hank Sharp Ride: ATVs only under 53" wide! Available on Wednesday, Thursday & Friday. Hank was a real local character. After leaving the Colorado area, he moved his family to a farm in Nutrioso where he raised his seven children alone after the death of his wife. It has been rumored that he was a member of the Butch Cassidy gang, but his Arizona neighbors and relatives know him only as an Apache County deputy sheriff! This fast-paced ride covers about 80 miles, taking you from the rodeo grounds up into the Nutrioso area and through Auger Canyon, our favorite spot on the Outlaw Trail. This trail is rated for the "Intermediate" rider and will be an all day ride. Bring your sack lunch. This trail is being sponsored by Car Quest of Springerville.



13. Casa Malpais Archaeological Park Tour: UTVs OK! Available Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. This ride leaves the rodeo grounds and participants will ride their ATVs to the Casa Malpais Museum located on Main Street in Springerville. From here you will follow a museum tour guide to the archaeological site. The tour lasts around 1 ½ hours and is an incredible adventure for the lover of Indian ruins. The ride is for the "Beginner" and is worth the trip. The tour fee is included in your registration fee.

14. Hannagan Meadow Loop: UTVs OK! Trailered Ride! Available Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. This ride requires trailoring your ATV 30 miles to Alpine. From Alpine you will ride south through some of the most spectacular country along the Coronado Trail. From Alpine up South Mountain down into the Campbell Blue, then up Middle Mountain down into the Beaver Creek drainage, and then on to Horton Creek to Hannagan, this trail follows old logging spurs through rugged, wildlife-loaded backcountry. This country is considered by many to be some of the best trophy elk country in the world. This ride will be around 100 miles and is rated Advanced for fast-paced riders who enjoy a challenge of steep climbs. Sports quads are not recommended on this trail. Lunch can be purchased at the beautiful Hannagan Meadows Lodge or you can picnic overlooking the little valley. Extra gas is recommended, but also is available at the Hannagan Meadow Lodge store.

15. Coronado Trail Marathon: UTVs OK! Available Wednesday only! This is an overnight ride that will leave the rodeo grounds at 7 am on Wednesday morning and return Thursday evening. Riders will stop in Alpine for lunch at the Bear Wallow café and then ride on to Hannagan Meadows to spend the night. Reservations for cabins can be made by calling the Hannagan Meadow’s Lodge at 928.339.4370. Riders will be responsible for their own meals and lodging. Dry camping (no showers) will also be available at Hannagan Meadow’s campground. This would be an awesome "couples" ride for that adventurous team! This ride will be limited to 15 Advanced, fast-paced riders only - NO EXCEPTIONS. Sports quads are not recommended on this ride because of some steep and rocky terrain. Roundtrip ride is around 210+ miles. Elevation on this ride is over 9,000’ so be sure and pack warm clothes accordingly. Please make sure that your ATVs are in peak running condition and headlights are mandatory. 16. Ben Lilly Trail (formerly the Bill Stinson Memorial Ride): UTVs OK! Trailered Ride! Available Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. - This ride will require you to trailer your wheeler to the Alpine staging area. Our very own Outlaw Trail Poet, Chris Isaacs, once said that if God had a summer home, it would be on Terry Flat at the top of Escudilla Mountain. Elevations will be pushing 10,000’ at the top. One of the many sites we will visit along the way is the gravesite of Jacob Hamblin in Alpine, early Arizona pioneer. See firsthand the rugged, beautiful terrain Ben Lilly hunted grizzlies in! This trail is a must for the lover of Aspen-covered gold mountainsides! This ride has some steep, rocky climbs to make your ride more interesting! The ride will be about 30 miles long and is rated Intermediate. Bring a sack lunch. This ride is brought to you by the Town Of Eagar.


17. Oscar Schultz Circle: UTVs OK! Trailered Ride! Available Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. This ride will require you to trailer your ATV to the Williams Valley Staging Area. This is a 40 mile loop that will leave Alpine by South Mountain down into the Campbell Blue. You will be able to visit the lonely grave of Oscar Schultz on Coyote Creek and then back to Alpine. Bring a sack lunch. This ride is rated Moderate.

18. Bill Stinson Memorial Ride: UTVs OK! Trailered Ride! Available Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. This ride will require you to trailer your ATV 45 miles to the Horton Creek Staging Area. The Bill Stinson Memorial Ride will take you into some rugged bear country where Ben Lilly was known to trail Grizzlies back in the old days. Some of the sites on this trail are Horton Creek and then on to Hannagan Meadows then dropping off on the east drainage of Willow Creek. The ride will be about 36 miles and is rated Advanced due to very steep, rocky terrain. Gas and snacks will be available at the Hannagan Meadows store. Elevations will reach around 9,000’.

19. Saffel Canyon Night Ride/Poker Run: ATVs only under 53" wide! Available Wednesday & Thursday nights only. This will be a fun ride for the "kid at heart"! Follow the Saffel Canyon trail to the Point of the Mountain and back to the rodeo grounds -- adventure all along the way! Ride will leave at 8:00 pm from the rodeo grounds and will have you back by 10 p.m. Rated Intermediate - must have headlights, flashlight, and warm jacket to go!! Great prizes for the winning hands! Please note: A maximum clearance of 53" is available at certain points on this trail. If you are riding a Polaris Ranger, Yamaha Rhino, or a similar rig, please choose another ride because of the clearance problem. This is an 18 mile loop. 20. Harris Cave Hideout: UTVs OK! Trailered Ride! Available Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. *Requires trailering your ATV 18 miles. This fast-paced ride is for the Advanced rider who loves an adventure. This 40-mile ride has steep, rocky terrain, beautiful meadows, remote back country trails to Harris Cave and the top of Green’s Peak Lookout at over 10,000’ in elevation. A stop at Harris Cave will allow the spelunking adventurer the opportunity to explore this awesome cavern. Bring a change of clothes and shoes to change into if you don’t want to ride home in muddy clothes! Also bring along a sack lunch and your camera!


21. Lawmen's Memorial Ride (Shortened Version): UTVs OK! Trailered Ride! Available Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. For those of you that would like to experience the Lawmen's Memorial Ride and not ride the whole trail, we are offering this shortened version which is about a 55 mile ride. You will be required to trailer your vehicle 12 miles to the Pat Knoll Staging Area. For further trail description, please refer to ride #5.
